John Storm (January 3, 1760 Dragoons commanded huge power upon the battlefield at the time because of their ability to incite fear within the enemy infantry. "The shock of a cavalry charge often proved decisive in gaining a victory." Had it not been for these handful of dragoons, the Battle of Cowpens, a turning point in the war, could have been an American loss. He served under Captains Ballard Smith and Thomas Boyer in the 1st Virginia Regiment starting in 1780. Later that year he served under Captain Robert Morrows in Colonel William Washington's Continental Dragoons. He is believed to have fought not only in the Battle of Cowpens, but the Battle of Guildford Court House as well.
